doll is wearing my complete and
beautiful Vogue tagged 1954 Candy Dandy outfit
often
referred to as the "chicken
dress".
The
original 1954
outfit came in the clothing box pictured.
The set was pretty mint but the outer organdy skirt on the dress
had discolored though it remained in the box for years.
I
had Sue of Ye
ster-Dolls in Chelmsford, MA
restore the color of the original organdy.
She removed the perfect appliqué and went to work.
Afterward she re-attached
the same unwashed chicken appliqué .
The dress is crispy without fading and isn't gritty.
I
cannot not believe the difference.
Take

I added the white pearls and vintage flowers she is holding.

flowers on the hat are all
original. 
I made the little Easter basket for her.

An interesting note: Sometimes the appliqué was
located on the left side
of the dress and sometimes on the right!
Vogue did some of the '54 dresses
with the loopy lace you see above.
Vogue also made the dress
with a different lace that is much smaller.
When Vogue repro'ed the chicken outfit in 2008,
they sold it as part of a 2 doll set
called "Mint Green Candy is Dandy Set".
Bearzabout sold the outfit on a blonde Ginny doll
with a matching blonde braids Mini Ginny.
Toy Village sold the set with a light brown haired
Ginny and matching Mini Ginny braids doll .
The Ginny dresses have the loopy lace shown on my '54.
but the Mini Ginny has the lace trim that is smaller
and close to what some of the original 1954's had.
I bought 2 repro Mint Green Candy is Dandy
sets from Toy Village
and two additional repro Ginny
chicken outfits from Bearzabout (the store has sadly closed).
Before closing. they sold these outfits separately at one point.
Those 2 extra outfits are on dolls below!
I guess you can tell I adore this dress set, old version or new!
